He is not a doctor in the sense that he is a physician. He is not a psychiatrist with MD or DO after his name. He did not go to medical school or residency. He is a nurse who received a doctorate in nursing. "Doctor NP" means Doctor of Nursing Practice. It is very deceiving and misleading. Nurse Practitioners should not be allowed to call themselves Doctor in the healthcare setting, even if they received a "doctorate." Being called doctor in the healthcare setting should only be reserved to those who completed medical school and residency.
